Department of Human Developmental Science

 Major in Human Developmental Science
 Major in Child Development

The “transformation processes of mind and behavior” of human beings from their birth until death are what we call development.  Human development is not only determined by innate factors.  It can be greatly affected by one’s relations with the environment in which one grows up.  That is why a wide variety of disciplines are required to study the transformation processes.

The Department of Human Developmental Science has instructors from the fields of psychology, education, sociology, information culture and child culture.  We provide comprehensive educational programs which enables our students to learn and investigate human development from various points of view.  Students who complete their studies in our department can be effective in the fields of psychology, education, childcare, welfare and medical care.  The skills could also be applied in private business and civil service because we prepare students who can build good relationships with others.  Our goal is to raise personnel who can provide support to others based on a firm understanding of human beings.

Since the 2007 academic year, our department has had two majors: a major in Developmental Science and a major in Child Development.  While the interdisciplinary nature of the department remains unchanged, students can set out clear goals and focus on their areas of interest.
