Needless to say, the infancy is a particularly important period in human life.  Many say children have changed, but is it true?  Thanks to our society’s tireless pursuit of convenience, our lives have become very easy.  However, the challenges involved in raising children have not changed much from those in the past.  It may be true that parenting is even harder for today’s parents.  Children’s issues we face today are in reality the issues of parents.  The Major in Child Development tackles issues related to children, with particular emphasis on those of infants.  Although our primary research subject is “children”, we include adults and parents so that we can come to a comprehensive understanding of human beings.

In this major, a license for a kindergarten teacher and a certificate for a child caregiver can be obtained.  As more parents have higher education, the demand for kindergarten teachers and child caregivers with university degrees is increasing.  Furthermore, as symbolized by the implementation of the new “Center for Early Childhood Education and Care,” the integration of kindergartens and day care centers is expected to happen in the near future.  That is why it is necessary to obtain dual licenses for both a kindergarten teacher and a child caregiver to work in the field of primary education.

We aim to create kindergarten teachers/child caregivers who have deep understanding of children’s minds, and who can help children develop well coordinated bodies.  In 2007, we were appointed as a certified college by the “Child Physical Association,” thus enabling students to acquire the certificate of an infant physical education instructor.  We hope that our students become educators who can help children grow both in mind and body.
