Major in Life Assistance Services
Return to Dept. of Comprehensive Welfare top page
Human beings face a variety of challenges and problems in the course of their lives from their birth until death. “Welfare” provides support to people throughout their lives so that they can enjoy a lifestyle that suits them. Our educational principle is to make students learn how to give support to people who are trying to live an independent, fulfilling, and self-controlling life, no matter how hard may the circumstances they are located in be.
In this major, we thoroughly implement a small-group education system, paying close attention, and giving careful guidance, to each student. On top of the general education that university students are expected to absorb, we offer students systematic curriculums in which emphasis is placed on practical exercises and field training to nurture social workers. Knowledge and skills that can be obtained through specialized courses will accumulate in each academic year, creating human resources who can contribute to the new welfare society.
Students can acquire the qualifications for the national examination for a certified social worker and a certified psychiatric social worker. Social workers work at various organizations including child consultation centers, facilities for handicapped children and adults, seniors’ homes and comprehensive support centers in communities. Psychiatric social workers work at mental health hospitals and mental health welfare centers. Students who are interested in education can also obtain the license (welfare) for a high school teacher by completing the teacher-training course. Our aim is to develop high quality social workers who can serve as leaders in the welfare society not only in Japan, but also in the international settings.
* The qualification for the national examination for a care worker cannot be obtained in this major.
